Cahiers d’Art Today
Cahiers d’Art presents itself as a unique contemporary art journal (La Revue), richly illustrated. Witness of its time, Cahiers d’Art has been following and writing art history for nearly a century.
Founded in 1926 by Christian Zervos, Cahiers d’Art defined itself by the combination of striking typography and layout, abundant photography, and a juxtaposition of ancient and contemporary art of its time. La Revue ceased publishing in 1960, and was reactivated in 2012 on the initiative of Staffan Ahrenberg.

Born in 1957 in Stockholm, Staffan Ahrenberg acquired Cahiers d’Art in 2010 and relaunched it in October 2012 with its eponymous art journal (La Revue). The first new issue in 52 years was dedicated to Ellsworth Kelly. Since 2013, he has published La Revue with artists including Rosemarie Trockel, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Gabriel Orozco, Calder, Picasso, Miró, Ai Weiwei, Christo and Arthur Jafa.
Staffan Ahrenberg organised Le Corbusier. The Secrets of Creativity: Between Painting and Architecture, curated by the late Jean-Louis Cohen, at the Pushkin Museum, Moscow (2012), and Moderna Museet, Stockholm (2013). In 2015, with the Fondation Beyeler and the AVC Charity Foundation, Moscow, he co-organised the futuristic opera Victory Over the Sun, with costumes and sets by Kazimir Malevich, at Theater Basel; later staged at the Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris.
In 2017, Staffan Ahrenberg opened the Cahiers d’Art – Walther König Bookstore at the Palais de Tokyo Museum, Paris, in partnership with Walther König, the legendary German book retailer. It is now Paris' largest art bookstore. In 2018, he was honoured as a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters in France, and in 2020 established the Cahiers d’Art Institute, a US non-profit organisation.

La Revue

Since its relaunch, the new Cahiers d’Art has remained faithful to the spirit, graphic identity, and eclecticism of Zervos’ era. It features contemporary artists such as Ellsworth Kelly, Rosemarie Trockel, Ai Weiwei, Arthur Jafa, and Christo, alongside some of Zervos’ favourites – Picasso, Miró, Calder, and others.
Cahiers d’Art collaborates directly with artists or their estates to produce La Revue, which is published in both a standard and a limited edition. The limited edition includes an original work, signed and numbered by the principal featured artist.

Pablo Picasso by Christian Zervos
A Modern Masterpiece is Reborn: In 1932, Cahiers d’Art published the first volume of the Picasso Catalogue, a project prepared by Christian Zervos in partnership with Picasso himself. This massive undertaking became Zervos’s life work and one of the most influential pieces of scholarship on the 20th century’s most renowned artist. At long last, this historic 33-volume set is available again. The original catalogue, with corrections from Picasso Administration, is now available in French and in English for the first time.

“There are many catalogs of Picasso’s work, but art dealers tend to speak of the Zervos…with reverence.” Sir John Richarson
