Revue Cahiers d'Art, 2023, Philippe Parreno, Limited Edition including original Artwork
This special issue of Cahiers d’Art features French artist Philippe Parreno revisiting thirty years of exhibition practice through a curated assemblage of rarely-seen images. These images are not traditional artworks but the by-products of his practice—weather stations, sensors, shadows, computer programs, loudspeakers, and exhibition viewers—devices that collect data and inform the exhibition process, central or peripheral to his work.
Parreno has paired these images, each functioning as a counterpoint to its counterpart, revealing connections and exposing continuity within his complex system of creation. The patterns and motifs throughout the volume showcase spectral agents that have reappeared in Parreno’s work, offering a deeper exploration of his process, its purpose, and its driving force.
An accompanying booklet presents a conversation between Philippe Parreno and Hans Ulrich Obrist, expanding on the artist’s oeuvre and his vision for this issue. Essays by philosophers Federico Campagna and Anna Longo place Parreno’s work within a metaphysical context.
This limited edition is presented in a custom-made plexiglass box, containing a clothbound edition of the revue, the accompanying booklet, and a double-sided print of Parreno’s Iceman (2020), 2023, in two stages. The edition is limited to 100 signed copies.
