Cahiers d'Art: A Century of Modernism

Cahiers d’Art: A Century of Modernism, published to mark the centenary of Cahiers d’Art in 2026, is a landmark publication celebrating one hundred years of artistic innovation, publishing, and cultural exchange.

Founded in Paris in 1926 as a publishing house, gallery, and revue, Cahiers d’Art became one of the most influential platforms of the twentieth-century avant-garde, championing artists including Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Wassily Kandinsky, Marcel Duchamp, and the Surrealists, while publishing texts by leading writers, philosophers, and critics of the era.

Edited by Daniel Birnbaum and Cécile Debray, this richly illustrated volume traces the history and legacy of Cahiers d’Art from its origins to its contemporary revival. Featuring more than 200 illustrations, exhibition views, archival material, and artworks from partner museums and collections, the book offers a visual and scholarly exploration of the figures, ideas, and collaborations that have shaped modern and contemporary art over the past century.

Echoing the distinctive spirit and format of the original Revue Cahiers d’Art, the publication brings together historical and contemporary voices, revealing the enduring relevance of one of the most significant cultural enterprises of the modern era.
